Hit-and-run in­ci­dents kill two women

Navi Mum­bai: A woman rid­ing pil­lion on a mo­tor­cy­cle that her hus­band was rid­ing to their home­town for Di­wali died in a hit-and-run in­ci­dent on the Thane-Be­la­pur road re­cently while an­other was found dead in a sus­pected hi­tand-run case un­der the Adai vil­lage bridge on the Mum­baiPune Ex­press­way on Fri­day.

In the first in­ci­dent, Ar­pita Jad­hav (24) lost her life when the mo­tor­cy­cle her hus­band was rid­ing was hit by a ve­hi­cle on Wed­nes­day.

The Turbhe MIDC po­lice sta­tion reg­is­tered a case of rash and neg­li­gent driv­ing against the driver of an uniden­ti­fied ve­hi­cle.

Ar­pita had suf­fered se­vere head in­juries, her hus­band, Aniket (28), was saved as he was wear­ing a hel­met. He sus­tained se­vere in­juries else­where as the bike skid for about 20 me­tres, said sub-in­spec­tor Sud­hir Ten­gale.

The other de­ceased woman re­mained uniden­ti­fied, and the po­lice said she ap­peared to be aged be­tween 40 and 50 years. The body was found around 10.45 pm. The Khan­desh­war po­lice sta­tion reg­is­tered a case of rash and neg­li­gent driv­ing and caus­ing death against an un­known ve­hi­cle driver. Con­sta­ble Prashant Bagul lodged the com­plaint af­ter he found the body at the spot af­ter he was in­formed about it on the wire­less.
