Mumbai: Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray slammed the state government for appointing officials from the forest department to probe the allegations of procedural lapses in the killing of tigress Avni. He also demanded a judicial probe headed by a retired high court judge into the episode.
Thackeray said the very people who planned and supported her killing and appointed the sharpshooter have been appointed to probe the matter. “The committee is a farce. Why the drama of a probe? Give everyone a clean chit and felicitate the killers,” he said.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam said that the number of tiger deaths in the state has been on the rise and Mungantiwar was not doing anything about it. “Despite the National Tiger Conservative Authority’s rule to have The

Mungantiwar refuted all charges. “I have written to the CM demanding that five retired Supreme Court judges be appointed to conduct the probe. I am ready for any kind of scrutiny...,” he said. Aam Aadmi Party too has demanded a judicial probe in the incident and said that the forest department should launch a search operation to locate her cubs.
