JNU’s gender committee to hold elections
New Delhi: The Jawaharlal Nehru University’s gender sensitisation and redress body GSCASH has announced elections for its student posts. The last day of nomination is on Monday while the polling will take place on Friday.
The JNU registrar had, on September 12, sent a notice to JNU teachers association, student association, officers and staff association to keep any election for the GSCASH body on hold. The university administration plans to reconstitute the GSCASH into an Internal Complaints Committee, which has elicited protests and criticism from teachers and students alike.
However, a day after the registrar’s notice, the GSCASH announced elections to its student representative posts. “The GSCASH is a statute and follows all guidelines as per requisite rules. It also has a legal standing. The administration does not have the authority to obstruct these polls,” said JNUSU joint secretary Shubhanshu Singh.
