Goa oppn leader, wife booked in as­sets case

Panaji: Goa’s op­po­si­tion leader and Congress MLA Chan­drakant Kavlekar and wife Sav­itri were booked by the anti-cor­rup­tion branch (ACB) on Satur­day in Rs 4.8-crore dis­pro­por­tion­ate as­sets case. The ACB raided Kavlekar’s home and party of­fice at Quepem and his com­mer­cial es­tab­lish­ment in Mar­gao

ACB su­per­in­ten­dent of po­lice Bosco Ge­orge said if Kavlekar was un­able to pro­vide sat­is­fac­tory an­swers to their ques­tions , they would con­sider arresting him.

The FIR against Kavlekar has been reg­is­tered un­der pro­vi­sions of the Preven­tion of Cor­rup­tion Act while his wife—who is a di­rec­tor in his com­pa­nies—has been booked un­der pro­vi­sions of In­dian Pe­nal Code.
