Dalit al­legedly lynched for steal­ing veg

Shah­ja­han­pur: A Dalit vil­lager was al­legedly lynched by a farmer and his fam­ily for steal­ing ‘par­wal’ from the lat­ter’s veg­etable patch early on Satur­day morn­ing. Af­ter po­lice re­fused to file an FIR in the mat­ter, the vic­tim’s fam­ily and other vil­lagers protested in front of the po­lice sta­tion till of­fi­cials agreed. Four per­sons have been booked for the crime.

The in­ci­dent hap­pened at Dhau­rahra Kasba vil­lage in Lakhim­pur Kheri dis­trict. Sukai Lal Pasi (48) was a res­i­dent of the neigh­bour­ing Ke­shavpur Kalan vil­lage.Pasi and his wife Sun­dari were labour­ers, with five daugh­ters and a son. Af­ter se­nior po­lice of­fi­cials were in­formed of the mat­ter, Dhau­rahra sta­tion of­fi­cer Bri­jesh Ku­mar Tri­pathi was in­structed to file an FIR. An FIR was filed un­der sec­tions re­lat­ing to mur­der of the IPC, and sec­tions of the SC/ST Act.The FIR names four men.
