Woman gets snatcher ar­rested

New Delhi: A 30-year-old woman chased down the snatcher who tried to run away with her mo­bile phone in south Delhi’s Moti Bagh area on Thurs­day. The ac­cused was thrashed by the pub­lic be­fore be­ing handed over to the po­lice.

The woman, Neeta (name changed), a teacher, was go­ing to­wards Kirti Na­gar and stopped at the Nanak Pura Gu­rud­wara in Moti Bagh when the in­ci­dent hap­pened.

Neeta told po­lice that due to traf­fic jam at Ring Road, she was driv­ing at a slow speed. Sud­denly she re­alised that a youth, who was walk­ing close to her, was try­ing to pull out her mo­bile phone from her pocket.

“Sud­denly he pulled my mo­bile phone from my pocket and tried to run away. I im­me­di­ately raised an alarm and man­aged to catch hold of his hand. In the mean­time, peo­ple gath­ered around and nabbed him,” Neeta said.

The ac­cused, Av­inash, was booked un­der sec­tions of thefts and at­tempt to com­mit of­fences. Po­lice are in­ter­ro­gat­ing the ac­cused to de­ter­mine if he has any pre­vi­ous crim­i­nal record.
