Give arrears to civic workers in 3 days: HC

The Times of India (New Delhi edition) - - TIMES CITY -

New Delhi: The high court on Friday ordered the AAP government to release within three days the arrears of sanitation workers of East Delhi Municipal Corporation, who have been on indefinite strike from October 11. They have been demanding outstanding payments, including salary, arrears and monetary benefits, due since 2003.

A bench comprising acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar issued the notice to the Centre, Delhi government and EDMC on a plea filed by Rahul Birla.

EDMC officials said that as they haven’t received any funds of the Rs 200 crore demanded from Delhi government, workers cannot be even paid Diwali bonus. The commissioner has warned the workers that there will be “no work, no pay” if they do not report to work. A government source said the funds will reach the corporation on Monday. North corporation workers have also threatened astrike from October16.
