Barala charged with stalking, bid to kidnap
Chandigarh: A local court framed charges on Friday of stalking, attempt to kidnap and drunken driving against Vikas Barala, son of Haryana BJP president Subhash Barala, and his friend Ashish Kumar in the Varnika Kundu stalking case.
Trial is to begin on the next date of hearing, October 27, when Varnika, a DJ and daughter of an IAS officer, will record her statement. Barala and Kumar could face a maximum of seven years in jail if convicted. The charges were framed under IPC Sections 354D (stalking), 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and under Sec 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
