Barala charged with stalk­ing, bid to kid­nap

Chandi­garh: A lo­cal court framed charges on Fri­day of stalk­ing, at­tempt to kid­nap and drunken driv­ing against Vikas Barala, son of Haryana BJP pres­i­dent Sub­hash Barala, and his friend Ashish Ku­mar in the Varnika Kundu stalk­ing case.

Trial is to be­gin on the next date of hear­ing, Oc­to­ber 27, when Varnika, a DJ and daugh­ter of an IAS of­fi­cer, will record her state­ment. Barala and Ku­mar could face a max­i­mum of seven years in jail if con­victed. The charges were framed un­der IPC Sec­tions 354D (stalk­ing), 365 (kid­nap­ping or ab­duct­ing with in­tent se­cretly and wrong­fully to con­fine per­son), 341 (pu­n­ish­ment for wrong­ful re­straint), 511 (pu­n­ish­ment for at­tempt­ing to com­mit of­fences), and 34 (acts done by sev­eral per­sons in fur­ther­ance of com­mon in­ten­tion) and un­der Sec 185 of the Mo­tor Ve­hi­cle Act.
