Eye on elec­tions, MP slashes VAT on fuel

Fol­low­ing Gu­jarat, Ma­ha­rash­tra and Hi­machal Pradesh, now Mad­hya Pradesh too has an­nounced a re­duc­tion in VAT on petrol and diesel, ef­fec­tive from Fri­day mid­night. With a year to go for as­sem­bly elec­tions, BJP termed it a Di­wali gift for the peo­ple. The ‘gift’ will cost the state Rs 2,000 crore in rev­enue.

4 Na­ga­land govt of­fi­cials held for ‘fund­ing’ rebels:

The NIA on Fri­day ar­rested four se­nior of­fi­cials of the Na­ga­land gov­ern­ment for their al­leged in­volve­ment in col­lect­ing tax on be­half of the pro­scribed Myan­mar­based NSCN(K) and di­vert­ing gov­ern­ment funds to rebels.

Coal min­is­ter Piyush Goyal has an­nounced a mon­e­tary re­ward for over 3 lakh non-ex­ec­u­tive em­ploy­ees of Coal In­dia Ltd for con­sis­tently main­tain­ing high rate of growth in pro­duc­tion.
