NGT relief to NHAI over e-way work
New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Tuesday gave relief to National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to restart construction on Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) after the authority told the tribunal that the primary aim of the project is to check pollution by reducing traffic on Delhi’s roads.
The NGT has asked NHAI to submit an undertaking mentioning that it will comply with all the pollution norms. “We will submit the undertaking and start work. We have been working hard to complete the 135km expressway in a record time. The NGT order is a big relief,” NHAI chief general manager B S Singla told TOI.
NHAI officials said work on the expressway had stopped soon after the ban ordered by NGT.
