Elderly woman found tied up, dead in S Delhi
New Delhi: A 75-year-old woman was murdered at her house in Sheikh Sarai of south Delhi on Tuesday morning. Her hands were tied and it seems she was strangled. The house was ransacked and many valuables have been found missing.
The PCR got a call about the murder around 6.40am when the victim Chandramukhi Guliya’s youngest son, Kuldeep, alerted the neighbours.
The woman lived alone on the first floor, while Kuldeep stayed on the third with his wife and three children. “Kul- BRUTAL END: deep called us around 7am and we soon reached the house. There is an ongoing property dispute in the family, but we are sure it has nothing to do with the murder,” said Gajender Singh, Guliya’s cousin.
“The woman had filed a criminal case against a relative a few years ago because he used to beat her up due to the property dispute. We are probing this relative’s role,” DCP (south) Ishwar Singh said. The entry to the house seemed friendly. Police, however, said that they have not ruled out the murder being fallout of a robbery attempt gone awry.
Kuldeep, a Yoga instructor at an institute near his house, said that he was leaving home around 6.30am like usual. “When I used to come down to the first floor, my mother would ask me to switch on the submersible water pump. But she didn’t call out to me today. At first I thought that she was sleeping, but when I was about to leave I noticed her front door was slightly open,” Kuldeep told the cops.
When he didn’t get any response from knocking on the door, Kuldeep entered and found his dead mother. Her face was covered with a cloth and hands tied with a rope. All the rooms had been ransacked. “The gas stove was on with a kettle on it. There were three plates on the table. It seemed as if someone who knew my mother came inside and killed her. He left the food untouched after sensing that he could get caught,” Kuldeep told his relatives.
Guliya’s three children live in the US while the fourth stays in Haryana. Kuldeep has been living with her since her husband’s death. A case has been registered at Malviya Nagar police station.
