UGC in­vites colleges for meet on au­ton­omy

New Delhi: In an ef­fort to en­sure max­i­mum par­tic­i­pa­tion from the top grade in­sti­tu­tions in the Univer­sity Grants Com­mis­sion’s scheme of au­ton­o­mous colleges, the reg­u­la­tory au­thor­ity has in­vited colleges from across the coun­try for an ori­en­ta­tion pro­gramme on Thurs­day.

Six Delhi Univer­sity colleges have al­ready ex­pressed their in­ter­est in seek­ing au­ton­o­mous sta­tus. The ori­en­ta­tion pro­gramme is likely to give an idea about the in­ter­est level among the other colleges for au­ton­o­mous sta­tus. The UGC has al­ready no­ti­fied the scheme ear­lier this year. In his let­ter to the colleges P K Thakur, sec­re­tary, UGC, wrote that the com­mis­sion has been im­ple­ment­ing the scheme of au­ton­o­mous colleges in order to fa­cil­i­tate the colleges to achieve fur­ther qual­i­ta­tive im­prove­ment lead­ing to­wards aca­demic ex­cel­lence.
