Yesteryears film heroine Shyama, whose vim and spontaneity lit up song sequences in Guru Dutt’s breezy crime yarn, Aar Paar (1953), and AVM productions' weepy social, Bhai Bhai (1956), passed away in Mumbai on Tuesday. She was 82, says film data website IMDB. According to a 1952 book, though, she would have been 84.

Shyama acted in at least 140 movies essaying lead parts, character roles and blink-and-miss parts. She is most remembered for her role in Bhabhi (1957) and Chhoti Bahen (1960). Her lone Filmfare Award as Best Supporting Actress was for her performance in Sharada (1957) .
