Ummar and accomplices also criminals, say Raj police
Alwar: Rajasthan police on Tuesday said a shootout took place between the gang of robbers posing as ‘gau rakshaks’ and Ummar Khan and his two accomplices on Friday morning leading to Khan’s death
Following the interrogation of two robbers — mastermind Bhagwan Singh alias Kala and Ramveer Gujjar – who were arrested on Monday evening, police said both the groups were criminals and who had a run-in at Ghahenkar village on the Alwar-Bharatpur border on Friday. “The two gangs exchanged fire and Ummar was killed. Ummar, Tahir and Javed alias Jabbar were smuggling cows and travelling on a vehicle with the number plate of a two-wheeler,” a senior police officer said.
The police have registered a case of murder, loot and attempt to murder against Bhagwan Singh and his five other accomplices. The four other gang members are still on a run. The duo was produced at the Laxmangarh court on Tuesday and taken on remand for three days.
A separate case has been registered against Tahir and Javed alias Jabbar. The pickup van in which the livestock was being transported had a fake number plate of a twowheeler, the police said.
Ummar’s dismembered body was recovered from the railway tracks in Govindgarh village of Alwar district on Friday morning while his associate Tahir was found shot at and critically wounded.
Police said Tahir Khan has five cases against him — three of which are under sections of the Rajasthan Bovine Animal (Prohibition of Slaughter and Rëgulation of Temporary Migration or Export) Act or the RB Act - while two cases are of assault. Police also claimed that Ummar Khan too was wanted in a case under the RB Act.
