The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, though a part of the tourism map under East India are completely cut-off to explore a different side of India, points out Prakash Kumar, Director, Mountain Edge Tours and Holidays. “Though development of tourism has been good on the Islands in terms of hotels, cruises and transport facilities, the region suffers majorly due to high airfares. The government has to look into the cost of fli flights to Andamans as the current tariffs are unjustified and discourage both domestic and internatio international tourist arrivals.” He further laments that under GST regime, the already expensive tourism prod products have become even more costly. “There are no advantages to the Union Territories unde under GST as in effect, taxes have only increased. The government has to work

on controlling the prices of tourism products in order to grow tourism to this destination.”
