Fin­nish Hor­net Re­place­ment RFI

There re­port­edly have been five re­sponses to Fin­land’s re­quest for in­for­ma­tion (RFI) for re­place­ment of the Fin­nish Air Force’s F-18C/D Hor­nets, th­ese com­ing from Boe­ing (/F/A-18E/F Su­per Hor­net), Das­sault Avi­a­tion (Rafale), BAE Sys­tems (Eurofighter Typhoon), Lock­heed Martin (F-35 Light­ning II) and Saab (JAS39 Gripen E). Fin­nish De­fence Min­istry plan to an­nounce the re­sults of this eval­u­a­tion around April 2017. The RFI seeks es­ti­mates on the cost of ac­qui­si­tion, through-life op­er­a­tion and main­te­nance sup­port, plus de­tails of weapons, train­ing meth­ods and equip­ment. A for­mal ten­der is ex­pected to be is­sued in spring 2018, with an ac­qui­si­tion de­ci­sion sched­uled to fol­low in 2021.
