Canada or­ders 18 Su­per Hor­nets

Soon af­ter the Cana­dian Gov­ern­ment’s de­ci­sion on 22 Novem­ber 2016 to launch “an open and trans­par­ent com­pe­ti­tion” to re­place the present fight­ers in its in­ven­tory, there will be an in­terim pur­chase of 18 new Boe­ing F/A-18E/F Su­per Hor­nets to sup­ple­ment the Royal Cana­dian Air Force’s legacy CF-18 fleet. The Cana­dian Gov­ern­ment will “en­ter into dis­cus­sions with the US Gov­ern­ment and Boe­ing re­gard­ing use of th­ese fight­ers for an in­terim pe­riod to cover the ca­pa­bil­ity gap un­til a new fighter en­ters ser­vice.” The cur­rent RCAF fleet is now more than 30 years old and re­duced
