Viet­nam or­ders mis­siles from In­dia

Fol­low­ing In­dian Prime Min­is­ter’s visit to Viet­nam in Septem­ber 2016, when too the gov­ern­ment of In­dia ex­tended Viet­nam a $500 mil­lion credit against sup­ply of de­fence equip­ment and train­ing, Viet­nam Navy per­son­nel are al­ready un­der train­ing in In­dia on Rus­sian-ori­gin Kilo- class sub­marines, while Viet­nam Air Force per­son­nel would re­ceive train­ing with the IAF on Sukhoi Su-30MKI fight­ers. The Viet­namese have re­port­edly also re­quested sup­ply of BrahMos su­per­sonic long range mis­siles plus Akash sur­face-to-air mis­siles.

In an ex­pected re­ac­tion, a Chi­nese gov­ern­ment spokesman has stated that, “If the In­dian gov­ern­ment gen­uinely treats its en­hance­ment of mil­i­tary re­la­tions with Viet­nam as a strate­gic ar­range­ment or even re­venge against Bei­jing, it will only cre­ate dis­tur­bances in the re­gion and China will hardly sit with its arms crossed”.
