Ar­gentina in­ter­est in MiG-29s, L-159s

Rus­sian sources re­port that Ar­gentina has shown re­newed in­ter­est in the MiG-29, the type hav­ing been for­mally pre­sented to the gov­ern­ment along with terms of a pos­si­ble con­tract for 15 air­craft to sup­plant the ob­so­les­cent Mi­rages and Sky­hawks still in ser­vice. Mean­while, Aero Vodochody have of­fered the L-159 Ad­vanced Light Com­bat Air­craft (ALCA) to Ar­gentina that would see the

Fabrica Ar­gentina de Aviones (FAdeA) col­lab­o­rate in pro­duc­tion, with the po­ten­tial to es­tab­lish a lo­cal assem­bly line if the or­der is “large enough”. Aero Vodochody re­cently re-launched pro­duc­tion of the L-159 af­ter 13 years and has also in­tro­duced an up­graded trainer ver­sion, the L-159T1+.

In un­re­lated news, there are un­con­firmed re­ports that Malaysia is of­fer­ing some of its MiG-29s be­ing phased-out, in a re­cip­ro­cal deal for ac­quir­ing HAL-built com­po­nents for the RMAF’s Su30MKM fighters.
