A ‘Wine’tage Affair.

Cadova is a unique retail concept in Vietnam that offers fine wines from across the world. Located at the high end district of Ho Chi Minh city, it caters to a segment that is niche but large to appreciate and enjoy expensive wine and cigar. Danny Dinh Tan Dat, the founder director of Cadova and Nique Choo Chung Hou, Design Manager Kingsmen Vietnam, share what makes this store far from ordinary.

The space that Cadova occupies today is right below Danny’s house. Here he owned an office area with an attached restaurant and store room to keep all the wines. Realizing the high potential that wine retailing imbibes, Danny envisioned a differentiated idea. “Our objective was to have customers come here to enjoy fine wine and cigar in a relaxing environment. We wanted to show as many products as possible without making the store look claustrophobic. At the same time, the store should be able to attract the attention from pedestrians”, says Danny. “He also wanted to have an open space for conducting wine tasting workshops, and a private corner for collectors and connoisseurs to gather and share their passion for wine”, adds Nique. And this was achieved by retrofitting the entire space into a wine shop/ cellar. Nique started by researching the different kinds of wines produced in various countries. He had to look into not just storage or display of wines, but also on how to maintain their temperature under warm spotlights. However he explains that the biggest challenge was to save cost and make use of existing ceilings and columns, so that there is more scope to experiment with display units, lounging spaces, materials and lighting to give the store a new look. He used various colour combinations and explored finishes that would overall compliment the new concept.
