In­dia’s leading spa & sa­lon chain, Nat­u­rals, wanted to cre­ate a space that ex­udes style in terms of func­tion and feel at their flag­ship sa­lon in Chen­nai. De­signed by Saran As­so­ciates, the space houses the spa and sa­lon separately both of which are con­nected by a pas­sage. The idea was to give both zones in­di­vid­ual iden­ti­ties given the dif­fer­ent na­ture of their re­spec­tive ser­vices, while main­tain­ing con­sis­tency in the over­all look. The spa zone was de­signed to en­hance the sen­sory ex­pe­ri­ence for cus­tomers and the vis­ual el­e­ments in this area too were in­spired by the im­age of trees thus evok­ing a sense of calm and re­lax­ation for the ben­e­fit of their clien­tele. The forms of trees al­ter with the dif­fer­ent ar­eas in the spa, along with the colour and tex­ture of ma­te­ri­als used. To add a soft touch to this zone, soft sheers have been used where ac­cen­tu­ated lights adds drama. Cre­ated to have an in­stant im­pact on cus­tomers, the sa­lon area is done in stark white, with ac­cents of acid washed bronze mir­ror in ab­stract tri­an­gu­lar form. In­tro­duc­ing the tree el­e­ment in the space, back­lit alabaster sheets give the tex­ture of tree barks that also con­vey a lux­u­ri­ous feel. The re­tail dis­play is strate­gi­cally placed close to the cash wrap to fa­cil­i­tate con­trol over them and also al­low cus­tomers to in­ter­act with staff to get the prod­uct de­tails. En­cour­ag­ing in­ter­ac­tion among cus­tomers, the space has been de­signed to house cou­ple pedispa ser­vices, while the back wash units have been placed be­hind a par­ti­tion giv­ing pri­vacy to the cus­tomers. An­other in­ter­est­ing fea­ture is the Colour bar, placed at the cen­ter of styling zone, which is de­signed with a high aes­thetic and func­tional quo­tient, with ad­e­quate amount of stor­age space for all col­or­ing needs for the sa­lon.
