Category : Best Shop Fitting Project : The Tank GOLD : Shark Design Studio

The Tank, situated in the historic precinct of Ballard estate, Mumbai, is a retail store for high-end fashion brands. A celebration of aesthetics, the interior space at the Tank is a kaleidoscope of sense and sensibilities, with minute details and references related to the sea and the maritime history, placing the store in the larger context of the port city.

The interior of the space is essentially metropolitan in concept. The environment inside is neither disconnected nor devoid of the outside, while the exterior is another version of the space altogether. In essence, the space in the store is an articulation of organizing details and materials within a controlled geometry. Shipping containers used as partition walls bring the element of port history inside. Metal forms an integral part of the display, while reclaimed wood with metal jail gives a rustic texture to the whole place. The idea of stacked containers, each crafted for a purpose of allowing visual penetration and surface of containment, the moving trolleys, the cordoning out-custom bonded warehouses, all have naturally fallen into place
