In­no­va­tion is piv­otal to lead­er­ship..


In the world of light­ing filled with blurry similarities, it takes a leader to think un­con­ven­tion­ally and break the clut­ter. It is such fiery de­fi­ance of or­tho­doxy that leads to in­no­va­tion, mod­ern­iza­tion and progress. RLT has dared to dream big in the LED light­ing domain and has brought some rev­o­lu­tion­ary nov­el­ties in the con­cepts, ap­pli­ca­tions, prod­ucts and stan­dards.

On prod­ucts :

In­no­va­tion is in­te­gral to RLT, in their prod­uct de­sign and devel­op­ment. As an un­ceas­ing pur­suit, nu­mer­ous ideas are trans­lated into prod­ucts and tested for their de­sign, aes­thetics, func­tion­al­ity, per­for­mance and re­li­a­bil­ity. It started with pro­duc­ing LED lamps lo­cally in In­dia, for do­mes­tic use many years ago at a price and form that gave a tough chal­lenge to the im­ported brands which were the only op­tion then. Not only this pi­o­neer­ing work lent us con­fi­dence to leap into the LED domain, but also es­tab­lished RLT as a brand that looks into the fu­ture. Just at a time when in­dus­tries and fac­to­ries all around the coun­try were reel­ing un­der the se­vere power short­age and were des­per­ate for an en­ergy-ef­fi­cient and re­li­able LED al­ter­na­tive for the highly pow­er­con­sum­ing High Bay fix­tures, RLT launched their LED High Bay fix­tures range. This launch was not only an in­no­va­tion by it­self, but was a prod­uct that bore many other firsts viz. the form fac­tor, use of ac­tive cool­ing, com­pos­ite con­struc­tion, etc. No won­der this prod­uct set a bench­mark in the in­dus­try for high-bay range, and con­tin­ues to re­main so to this date. What fol­lowed the above were a se­ries of prod­uct in­no­va­tions that in­cluded a Lin­ear LED up-down lighter (the sleek­est alu­minum ex­trac­tion hous­ing with an ab­so­lute main­te­nance-friendly con­struc­tion, and a bril­liant spread of light up­ward and down­ward), TiltableWall Washer (with an amaz­ing de­sign, form and per­for­mance), LED Trunk­ing fix­ture ( a di­rect re­place­ment for flu­o­res­cent lin­ear fix­ture in hy­per/su­per mar­ket for­mats) - all th­ese cre­at­ing a clear point of ref­er­ence for the rest of the brands.

On ap­pli­ca­tion de­sign :

RLT’s in­no­va­tion in ap­pli­ca­tion de­sign is yet an­other sig­nif­i­cant dif­fer­en­tia­tor in the way light­ing de­signs are made. While it is nor­mal to work out de­signs that may be uni­form to a spe­cific for­mat in terms of light­ing lev­els or colors, RLT has taken this sub­ject to a dif­fer­ent level al­to­gether by align­ing light­ing that is syn­ony­mous with the brand’s phi­los­o­phy and con­cepts. For ex­am­ple, in ap­par­els / fash­ion for­mat, there could be two brands which are cater­ing to com­pletely dif­fer­ent sets of clien­tele. One may be of­fer­ing for­mal at­tires, while the other may be deal­ing in clothes that are for the youth. RLT’s light­ing de­sign brings out a clear distinc­tion in the way th­ese brands are iden­ti­fied with, through a craftymix of light in­ten­si­ties and ef­fects in dif­fer­ent ar­eas.

On com­pre­hen­sive value propo­si­tion :

It’s not about just sell­ing prod­ucts.. It is pro­vid­ing a com­pre­hen­sive value propo­si­tion that cov­ers the en­tire spec­trum – ‘from con­cept to com­ple­tion and be­yond’ – that is dis­tin­guish­ing RLT as an in­no­va­tor in the in­dus­try. Our re­la­tion­ship with the cus­tomers start al­most at the con­cept stage it­self, where we share our knowl­edge and com­pe­tency in sug­gest­ing ap­pro­pri­ate light­ing themes, and goes on to mak­ing con­tem­po­rary de­signs, cus­tomiz­ing prod­ucts where re­quired, pro­vid­ing com­plete in­stal­la­tion-re­lated ser­vices, and back-up in the guar­an­tee ten­ure and be­yond. We also con­duct broad tech­ni­cal ses­sions for the project teams of the cus­tomers on gen­eral light­ing-re­lated sub­jects, to make them up-dated on the tech­nol­ogy, trends and op­por­tu­ni­ties for en­ergy con­ser­va­tion and sus­tain­abil­ity. The scope is fur­ther en­larged through our eval­u­a­tion and con­sul­tancy as­sis­tance for con­ver­sion from con­ven­tional to LED light­ing, and even ar­rang­ing fi­nan­cial sup­port where re­quired.

On mea­sure­ment­stan­dards :

The only stan­dard mea­sure­ment of light­ing lev­els has been through a gad­get called ‘Lux Me­ter’ which would di­rectly as­sess the amount of lu­mi­nos­ity. This is called pho­topic mea­sure­ment. How­ever in the realm of ‘per­ceiv­ing’ the light lev­els in an en­vi­ron­ment it is dif­fer­ent by the hu­man eye, which is sco­topic. There is a con­sid­er­able dif­fer­ence in the amount of light/bright­ness through a lux me­ter and the ‘per­cep­tion’ of light­ing level by the hu­man eye. For eg.a higher color tem­per­a­ture ac­ti­vates some area in the eye

lead­ing to per­ceive the light to be brighter, even though a tra­di­tion­ally pho­topi­cally de­signed light me­ter might in­di­cate oth­er­wise. RLT cre­ated aware­ness on this stan­dard of mea­sure­ment to their cus­tomers and brought a par­a­digm shift in the method of light mea­sure­ment in the in­dus­try. Yet an­other in­no­va­tive ap­proach.

On prod­uct testing :

Our own so­phis­ti­cated, state-of-theart pho­to­met­ric lab­o­ra­tory for testing the ef­fi­ciency and per­for­mance of the lu­mi­naires is one of the very few in the in­dus­try. Ev­ery sin­gle prod­uct cre­ated by us un­der­goes rig­or­ous tests to en­sure that only the best prod­ucts even­tu­ally get added to our range and are of­fered to our cus­tomers. The in­no­va­tion in this as­pect is that we in­vite our cus­tomers to visit our lab and see for them­selves our qual­ity and per­for­mance stan­dards, and more im­por­tantly they are wel­come to even do a com­par­a­tive anal­y­sis of our prod­ucts with any of the com­pe­ti­tion brands, if they so wish. If in­no­va­tion be­comes a way of life, lead­er­ship is cer­tain. RLT has pro­found be­lief in this phi­los­o­phy. Thus RLT re­mains the fore­most choice in the cus­tomers’ minds when it comes to light­ing. Af­ter all, In­dia’s top brands in re­tail, com­mer­cial and industrial do­mains pa­tron­ize RLT, not for any small rea­son, but for the for­mi­da­ble spirit of in­no­va­tion that we are as­so­ci­ated with.
