High qual­ity re­tail de­sign and vis­ual mer­chan­dis­ing has come into its own in In­dia and the VMRD award en­tries lend cre­dence to this be­lief. It’s in­trigu­ing to see how re­tail­ers of In­dian mer­chan­dise are able to cre­ate sur­round en­vi­ron­ments that cel­e­brate our tra­di­tional sen­si­bil­i­ties with colours, tex­tures and forms in­te­grated within the en­vi­ron­ments. Con­cur­rently, our ex­po­sure to in­ter­na­tional brands in­forms the qual­ity of re­tail de­sign and dis­play for global brands. Our le­gion of re­tail de­sign­ers are com­pletely at ease with global trends and it’s not like we are cul­tur­ally ag­nos­tic, it’s more like we have ex­panded the mean­ing of va­sud­haiva ku­tum­bakam or ‘the world is one fam­ily’ into di­verse fields of ap­pli­ca­tion and sen­si­bil­ity.
