Steam Punk Guzzler
Set amidst Delhi’s unofficial pubtown Connaught Place, Ministry of Beer sets itself apart by being an ode to the culture called “beer”. The steam punk themed resto-pub spread over 12000 sq ft space, is fascinating with its bold yet classy interiors.
Ministry Of Beer, the latest resto-pub and one of the first craft beer hubs in the nation’s capital, opened its doors recently where the industrial meets Victorian design sensibilities makes this watering hole standout at Delhi’s brimming F&B haven Connaught Place.
Sandeep Singh, Director, Ministry of Beer, who also dabbled as the principal designer for the place, explained, “Globally, beer is not just a beverage like it is considered in India. Hence we wanted to dish out the history and culture associated with it. We decided to go with the theme that connects well with the beverage we are promoting and thus came the idea of steam punk.”
An unconventional entrance with a steam punk nitro mask just above the podium welcomes guests with lot of anticipation. A huge steam punk mask of Egyptian goddess of beer “HATHOR” overlooks the brewery while a model of a steam engine adds to the industrial look. The ceiling of the bar has a unique texture of scrap tins in random patterns that have names of beer varieties scribbled on them. A graffiti further visually narrates the process of making beer. The place also uses different names at each level - ground floor is called Juggernaut, Mezzanine is Ironford, first floor is Steamstorm and the second floor Crankshaft.
The backyard is a transformation from industrial to greenery which has vertical landscaped gardens and pebble walls depicting an industrial-meets-nature kind of look. The furniture replicate designs of the Persian boulevard while the “beer wish fountain” does justice to the natural setting as well as the purpose of the place. The vegetation in this area are also equipped to turn waste water into pure form.
