Along with the rapid ac­cep­tance and growth in the use of per­sonal dig­i­tal de­vices the ex­pe­ri­ence ex­pec­ta­tions in phys­i­cal spa­ces are also in­creas­ing. To­day mil­len­ni­als, de­spite shop­ping on­line, pre­fer to shop in phys­i­cal stores most of the time. This has brands fo­cussing on de­liv­er­ing mem­o­rable ex­pe­ri­ences at their phys­i­cal touch points and cre­at­ing ‘Phys­i­cal Brands’. De­sign Think­ing trends have re­aligned to en­able the phys­i­cal store to de­fine brands they rep­re­sent by of­fer­ing ex­pe­ri­ences that ad­dress hu­man, so­cial and per­sonal needs of their core cus­tomers.

The re­tail trends ar­ti­cle throws some in­sights into de­sign trends that take con­sid­er­a­tion of the so­cial and self-es­teem needs of the new-age con­nected cus­tomer to de­liver in­spir­ing and mem­o­rable store ex­pe­ri­ences.

The cover story demon­strates the use of de­sign imag­i­na­tion to cre­ate a hu­man­ized and in­spir­ing en­vi­ron­ment for Fore­sight, a bou­tique op­ti­cian. The In­dian de­sign sec­tion fea­tures Cot­tons & Satins con­cept that re­pur­poses and hu­man­izes an auto work­shop into an ex­pe­ri­en­tial store. Jew­ellery bou­tique Out­house is con­sciously de­signed to give a lux­u­ri­ous home en­vi­ron­ment to their cus­tomers en­gag­ing with then in­store.

The Brand Talk sec­tion fea­tures two in­spir­ing In­dian suc­cess sto­ries, one from fra­grance spe­cial­ist Iris Aroma, and the other from the pop­u­lar quirky life­style brand Chum­bak.

The In­dus­try Spe­cial sec­tions looks up at the Re­tail Floor­ing In­dus­try which has kept in step, in terms of growth, with that of the re­tail in­dus­try by in­no­vat­ing and de­liv­er­ing a di­verse range of prod­ucts for dif­fer­ent ap­pli­ca­tions in re­tail en­vi­ron­ments. VM&RD chats with key play­ers to get in­ter­est­ing in­sights.

Added are some in­ter­est­ing VM projects and a few new in­no­va­tive prod­ucts for both phys­i­cal and dig­i­tal ap­pli­ca­tions in re­tail en­vi­ron­ments.
