Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister and seven-time MLA from Azamgarh Durga Prasad Yadav speaks candidly about the Uttar Pradesh elections and says Akhilesh Yadav will form the next government in the state.

Q. The BJP swept Uttar Pradesh on the wave of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 and bagged 71 of 80 Lok Sabha seats. What is the situation now? Will the Samajwadi Party-congress alliance be able to stop the BJP from coming to power?

A. People made a mistake in 2014. They got swayed away by the lies and false promises of the BJP that time. Prime Minister is an expert liar. He fooled people with his lies. But all his lies stand exposed today. When he became PM, he came to Varanasi and said Maa Ganga had called him. He promised to clean the city but you can see what is the reality. He has not done anything for Varanasi.

On the other hand, our Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav did not make any noise but he is the one who has taken on the responsibility to beautify Varanasi. We are developing it into a tourist destination with beautiful parks and steamer facilities.

Q. Now that the Congress is in alliance with you, will the SP retain the state and form the government once again?

A. the alliance between the two parties is a histotric decision taken by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. The cadre of both the Congress and the SP are strongly united and working in the ground for a thumping victory of the alliance. People are with us too, and that is evident by the sea of people who swarm into the streets whenever Akhilesh Yadav and Congress vice president rahul Gandhi do a road show together. In all the four phases we have done very well and we are expected to do even better in the Purvanchal region. We will surely form the government.

Q. How many of the 10 seats in Azamgarh will the Sp-congress win?

A. Azamgarh is represented by netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav), and we are confident we will be successful in all 10 seats. We have worked a lot for the development of the state. We have connected all regions with a wide network of roads. Electricity is being supplied 18 hours a day and we hope to make it 24x7 in our next term even in rural areas. We have made five flyovers and connected the city to the east. We have given Rs 15 crore to patients fwith serious ailment or their treatment. Women are being given the Samajwadi pension.

Q. You are facing competition from BSP'S bahubali candidate in Azamgarh. Will you be able to retain your seat one more time?

A. Only the public is a bahubali. People do not vote fearing the hooligans and miscreants. People assess development and vote in the name of development. Our development is for everybody to see. We have not only started the Agra Lucknow expressway, we have initiated the metro network that will connect Ambedkar Nagar and Azamgarh to Ghazipur and Ballia. This has been inaugurated and in the next two years it will be completed. We have distributed laptops to students. Our "Kanyavidyadhan" has been very beneficial to girl students.

Q. Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari's Quamiekta Dal has merged into Mayawati'sbahujansamaj Party. Will this impact your chances of electoral success?

A. As I said, people vote only in the name of development these days, so bahubalis are a non-issue. CM Akhilesh has dedicated himself to the welfare of the state and he has a strong vision for Uttar Pradesh. People from all communities and background will support us and vote for us.
