Dis­trib­utes Re­lief Ma­te­ri­als to Flood Af­fected Peo­ple

Imphal, July 9: As the flood sit­u­a­tion in Ma­nipur wors­ened in the val­ley dis­tricts, sev­eral peo­ple have been af­fected since the wa­ter level of ma­jor rivers over­flowed due to in­ces­sant rain. In a bid to pro­vide some re­lief to the flood af­fected peo­ple, Busi­ness Ex­cel­lence Group (BEG) to­day vis­ited var­i­ous flood af­fected ar­eas in and around the val­ley of Ma­nipur dis­tribut­ing es­sen­tial food items to them. BEG, a group of com­mit­ted busi­ness firms and young en­trepreneurs of Ma­nipur, took upon it­self as a part of its so­cial re­spon­si­bil­ity and vis­ited ma­jor af­fected vil­lages in Nam­bol, Kon­thou­jam, Mayang Imphal and Hiyanglam to take a stock of the sit­u­a­tion and to pro­vide re­lief ma­te­ri­als to the vil­lagers.

More than 800 house­holds have been af­fected in the places BEG vis­ited. Gath­er­ing at its of­fice at 8:30 am, the BEG team started off to visit flood af­fected ar­eas at 9:30 am. The BEG team first went to Phoi­jing Awang vil­lage in Nam­bol wherein 260 house­holds were af­fected due to over­flow­ing of Nam­bol river. BEG dis­trib­uted 10 bags of rice, each bags of dal, salt, onion potato. Speak­ing to the BEG, Mr Sulesh­war Kon­sam, Ad­vi­sor, Phoi­jing Awang Youth Club, said: “Thank you BEG for com­ing and help­ing us. I am ex­tremely glad to know that at least some peo­ple like you care for us. Peo­ple care for our lives. Thank you once again for vis­it­ing us, it truly means a lot to us.”

Like­wise, BEG team went to Phoi­jing Makha Leikai wherein more than 300 houses were af­fected. In that area, BEG pro­vided 20 bags of rice and one bag each of dal, salt, onion and potato. Mr Kh Biren, Pres­i­dent of Young Guid­ance Club, Phoi­jing Makha Leikai ex­pressed concern about the de­te­ri­o­rat­ing health of the peo­ple and need for more re­lief ma­te­ri­als from the author­ity concern. On be­half of the vil­lage, he thanked the BEG for pro­vid­ing much needed food items to them.

Hav­ing vis­ited the above places since morn­ing, BEG headed

to­wards Mayang Imphal area and Hiyanglam wherein peo­ple were us­ing tra­di­tional wooden boats for fer­ry­ing them­selves in and out of their houses. BEG took the ferry and vis­ited the af­fected house­holds, around 32 houses were af­fected. It pro­vided the es­sen­tial food items to the flood vic­tims tak­ing shel­ter at a re­lief camp.

It was around 6:30 pm when BEG team reached Kon­thou­jam area. The vil­lage called Khabi was worst af­fected. Roads lead­ing to the vil­lage was over­flow­ing with wa­ter. How­ever, it was a happy sight to see their Lo­cal MLA who is also Hon'ble Par­lia­men­tary Sec­re­tary, Tourism Dr Sa­pam Ran­jan at the flood site and help­ing his peo­ple dur­ing this hard time. When he saw BEG team, he ex­pressed his hap­pi­ness and ex­plained how dif­fi­cult it has been for his peo­ple and he guided the BEG team to the re­lief camp­ing site pass­ing through over­flow­ing roads. BEG dis­trib­uted 30 bags of rice, two bags each of dal and potato and three bags of salt to the flood vic­tims of Khabi Vil­lage.

Ex­press­ing his glad­ness, Dr Sa­pam Ran­jan said, “Grat­i­tude to the Busi­ness Ex­cel­lence Group (BEG) for the help and sup­port given to the peo­ple of Khabi, who have been badly af­fected by the flood. Thank you.”

Con­clud­ing to­day's noble re­lief work at the BEG of­fice, its

Con­venor, Mr Hero Thok­chom said, “To­gether we the BEG can do a mir­a­cle work and it's proven by to­day's ac­tion and I would like to thank all the es­teemed mem­bers of BEG for ini­ti­at­ing and tak­ing ac­tive role in pro­vid­ing re­lief ma­te­ri­als to the flood af­fected peo­ple of Ma­nipur.”
