Distributes Relief Materials to Flood Affected People
Imphal, July 9: As the flood situation in Manipur worsened in the valley districts, several people have been affected since the water level of major rivers overflowed due to incessant rain. In a bid to provide some relief to the flood affected people, Business Excellence Group (BEG) today visited various flood affected areas in and around the valley of Manipur distributing essential food items to them. BEG, a group of committed business firms and young entrepreneurs of Manipur, took upon itself as a part of its social responsibility and visited major affected villages in Nambol, Konthoujam, Mayang Imphal and Hiyanglam to take a stock of the situation and to provide relief materials to the villagers.
More than 800 households have been affected in the places BEG visited. Gathering at its office at 8:30 am, the BEG team started off to visit flood affected areas at 9:30 am. The BEG team first went to Phoijing Awang village in Nambol wherein 260 households were affected due to overflowing of Nambol river. BEG distributed 10 bags of rice, each bags of dal, salt, onion potato. Speaking to the BEG, Mr Suleshwar Konsam, Advisor, Phoijing Awang Youth Club, said: “Thank you BEG for coming and helping us. I am extremely glad to know that at least some people like you care for us. People care for our lives. Thank you once again for visiting us, it truly means a lot to us.”
Likewise, BEG team went to Phoijing Makha Leikai wherein more than 300 houses were affected. In that area, BEG provided 20 bags of rice and one bag each of dal, salt, onion and potato. Mr Kh Biren, President of Young Guidance Club, Phoijing Makha Leikai expressed concern about the deteriorating health of the people and need for more relief materials from the authority concern. On behalf of the village, he thanked the BEG for providing much needed food items to them.
Having visited the above places since morning, BEG headed
towards Mayang Imphal area and Hiyanglam wherein people were using traditional wooden boats for ferrying themselves in and out of their houses. BEG took the ferry and visited the affected households, around 32 houses were affected. It provided the essential food items to the flood victims taking shelter at a relief camp.
It was around 6:30 pm when BEG team reached Konthoujam area. The village called Khabi was worst affected. Roads leading to the village was overflowing with water. However, it was a happy sight to see their Local MLA who is also Hon'ble Parliamentary Secretary, Tourism Dr Sapam Ranjan at the flood site and helping his people during this hard time. When he saw BEG team, he expressed his happiness and explained how difficult it has been for his people and he guided the BEG team to the relief camping site passing through overflowing roads. BEG distributed 30 bags of rice, two bags each of dal and potato and three bags of salt to the flood victims of Khabi Village.
Expressing his gladness, Dr Sapam Ranjan said, “Gratitude to the Business Excellence Group (BEG) for the help and support given to the people of Khabi, who have been badly affected by the flood. Thank you.”

Convenor, Mr Hero Thokchom said, “Together we the BEG can do a miracle work and it's proven by today's action and I would like to thank all the esteemed members of BEG for initiating and taking active role in providing relief materials to the flood affected people of Manipur.”
