A family spa treatment at Lagoon Spa

Five-star The Laguna, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa is renowned as family-friendly. The hotel is secured among Nusa Dua’s gated resort complex and nestled alongside the pristine and gently sloping white sands lapped by clear, shallow waters – an idyllic spot for safe snorkeling and swimming. And within pretty tropical gardens, The Laguna comes landscaped around a 5,000-square-metre expanse of turquoise swimmable lagoon pools – which is one of the world’s first – stretching down to Nusa Dua Beach and provides a dedicated kid’s pool and sandy beach in the shallow end of the main swimming pool. True, there’s no kid’s club per se, but in-house guests get complimentary access to those in neighboring Starwood resorts like The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali and The St. Regis Bali Resort, while childoriented activities are organized for special occasions like Christmas and Nyepi (Silent Day).

However, it doesn’t mean that the resort is short on fun activities for family. The Laguna’s boutiquesized Lagoon Spa offers quality family bonding – and also welcomes outside resort guests. Inspired by the seven pillars of well-being (life balance, harmony, beauty, vitality, aqua, nature and nutrition), Lagoon Spa is a bit of an aquatic adventure, entered via a cascading waterfall and surrounded by a section of the stunning lagoon pool. The spa provides eight air-conditioned

treatment suites (complete with shower and grooming area), five of which look out over the shimmering waters. Although the design appears opulent and ultra-contemporary, the approach is warm and nurturing, with their long-experienced, skilled therapists and some pretty smart family-friendly spa treats!

For junior guests (four to 12 years old, accompanied by a parent) the “Spa for Kids” menu offers wellthought out and fun spa treatments lasting 45 minutes (available at Rp.450,000 nett or under). For the young, sensitive skins the treatment uses all-natural fresh and pure ingredients, which are good enough to eat, literally – quite the challenge not to lick them off.

Other options include “Coco Massage” that features a gentle massage using light and pure virgin coconut oil, “Yummy Facial” with creamy yoghurt, a rose petal facial bather and lime and honey massage as well as chocolate or strawberry fresh milk mask, and “Creamy Wrapping” that incorporates a strawberry, honey milk or chocolate exfoliating body scrub and nutritious wrap. The spa also has “Fancy Nails” for customized nail design art, from exotic flowers to flags.

For moms and daughters, these spa treatments can be experienced

together under the “Mom and Me” package, rounded-off with a complimentary milkshake, smoothie or chocolate drink. The spa’s dedicated mini-salon rooms are set up exclusively for two for manicurepedicure, hair and beauty which are perfect for mom and child treatments in private.

Lagoon Spa’s extensive menu also offers several pampering “me-time’’ treatments and rituals for frazzled moms and dads, including “From Top to Toe for Him or Her” half-day vacation package (Rp.3,750,000 nett). This is the perfect choice as it combines look-good-feel-good customized treatments for during and post-vacation. However, 90-minute

treatments are key as these can be nicely synchronized with a couple of 45-minute kid’s sessions, either taken together as simultaneous treatments in one of the couple’s suites with twin massage beds (open the wooden shutters for lagoon views and soothing waterfall sounds) or with one or two kids spoilt rotten in a salon room.

Amongst the 90-minute Body Massages, the signature Lagoon Customized Massage (Rp.1,000,000 nett) is both ultra-calming and reenergizing, combining global massage techniques customized to individual requirements: deep vigorous Chinese acupressure activating points on the meridian line, improving the body’s metabolism and drainage system, boosting the immune system, soothing Swedish and Balinese massages, and invigorating Indian head massage. Like all massages, these work in unison with a personally selected, coconut oil-based massage oil infused with flowers.

Dads don’t miss out either, thanks to the “All about Men” menu which features “Energizer for Men” (Rp. 1,400,000 nett), an all-rounder signature treatment with a lavish all-natural scrub and spice-infused oil massage and Express Mani’s or Pedi’s, best coordinated with the mini-gals in his life. Families can also take treatments al fresco at one of the resort’s three spa bales (rustic open-air gazebos) strategically set around the kid’s pool on beachfront lawns shaded by trees. Here, parents can indulge in massages while the kids splash around within eyesight (the largest bale directly faces the kid’s pool) or at least one parent can have a spa treatment accompanied by a child and the rest of the family can entertain themselves at the pool.

All in all, Lagoon Spa has the perfect rather glamorous solution for bored youngsters, mini-spa divas in the making, or during Bali’s rainy days – or simply, a memorable birthday treat!
