Why Style Matters?
You are what you wear, some people say. Personally, I would wholeheartedly agree. In this day and age, no one can escape the inevitable scrutiny of colleagues, friends, family and even strangers, who will form their first impressions based on your appearance. Clothing has, in fact, been closely linked to societal acceptance since the olden days. For instance, if you were to live in Indonesia 100 years ago, wearing batik was deemed a way to gain respect. But the million-dollar question still remains: do I really need to style up before I leave the house?
The answer is a resounding yes. Style is actually a basic form of communication. For instance it would likely be easier for you to strike up a conversation with a stranger who is dressed in a similar fashion to yourself, than one who isn’t. Furthermore, if you nail the right dress code at a party, you will quickly blend in and feel more comfortable among the company you’re in. While if you’re ever asked to entertain an audience on stage, looking that tad bit more stylish than those in the crowd will boost your confidence, helping you better command their attention.
However, for most of us, it takes a considerable amount of practice to perfect one’s personal style— arguably, it’s a never-ending pursuit. That’s why I decided to take a bold step in producing this biannual DA MAN Style edition that provides solutions to help you on your respective style journeys. The 360 sections cover Essentials to A-List celebrities, which might give you some ideas on what to wear to the office, the club or the season’s biggest social event. I would also encourage you to read the FAQ section, where our dedicated editorial team have answered 25 frequently asked questions that will simplify and, at the same time, help upgrade your style.
As for the Features section, we’ve sourced professional photographers from around the world to come up with bold and fashion-forward presentations. They are there to please the eye, provoke discussion about creative fashion pieces, and push the boundaries of modern men’s styling. In the end, there’s no “correct” or “right” style; it’s simply about how you choose to communicate yourself to the world outside, before any words have been exchanged. With this in mind, why not give yourself a headstart?
