Five-Star Pleasure - - PUBLISHER’S NOTE -

Lose yourself in the sweet embrace of nature and discover why time stands

still under the Banyan Tree.

Perched 70 metres above sea level on the cliff-top of the island’s southernmost peninsula, Banyan Tree Ungasan is 35 minutes by car from Ngurah Rai International Airport and the thriving beaches of Kuta, Seminyak and Sanur. Designed by Peddle Thorp Architects with interior décor by Wilson Associates Inc, Banyan Tree Ungasan was envisioned as a symbiosis of old and new, antiquity and modernity. Traditional principles and local considerations were used to maximise the unparalleled ocean views while reflecting the arrangement of a Balinese village. The entry to the villa is across a terrazzo stone pavement that appears to float over a lotus pond, leading to a living room with a five-metre-pitch ceiling.

SLEEP: Banyan Tree Ungasan features 73 spacious pool villas, set in their own lush, landscaped garden with outdoor jet pool, outdoor shower, marble bathroom and a Balinese balé (outdoor gazebo). The highlight of each modern villa is the generously-sized private infinity pool, arguably the most expansive of their kind in Bali, which start from 10 metres in length. The property comprises a range of one-, two- and three-bedroom villas. Living area and bedroom are connected via a courtyard, and carefully selected furnishings combine contemporary design with touches of Balinese artistry.

DINE & WINE: Ju-Ma-Na restaurant, which means ‘silver pearl’ in Arabic, offers modern gourmet menus. Observe the chefs at work in the display kitchen, or opt for the dramatic cliff-edge scenery, a superb setting for the excellent cuisine. The adjacent Ju-Ma-Na Bar offers sundowners along with Arabic finger food and Moroccan shishas (water pipes). Tamarind, set in the tranquil surroundings of the Banyan Tree Spa, will serve a variety of organic dishes, alongside a menu of jamu (herbal drinks), and Bambu presents popular international and local specialities in a spacious garden setting, sometimes with live entertainment.

REST & RELAX: Banyan Tree Ungasan has two swimming pools; the Relaxation pool is located near the Spa Area and Tamarind restaurant. The main pool is located in the central facilities offering fabulous Indian Ocean views and is also child-friendly. The kid’s club is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm.
