Everything begins from love. This form of human emotion enables the wheel of spirit within the soul to start the process of creation, Starting from the act of creating artistic masterpiece to manufacturing skincare products. Loving an object seems to put an encouragement to someone on following a path of continuous pattern to keep on creating and exploring a lot of possibilities. The enormous love is what the founder of L’occitane, Olivier Baussan, also felt. His love for Provence, his hometown, made Olivier establish L’occitane by starting the production of essential oil made from domestic floras in Provence. Leading a long way, until 40 years later in 2016, L’occitane has developed to be one of the most celebrated beauty products with thousands of stores spreading all across the world.
Commemorating its four-decade existence in the beauty industry, L’occitane released a limited collection of shea butter, rose and cherry blossom hand cream inside a vibrantcolored package as the character of 70s, the birth decade of L’occitane. This beautiful pack is also combined with a similar metal box and a tote bag.
To complete the joy of its 40th birthday, L’occitane presented a limited collection of lavender, consisting of foaming bath, soap, eau de cologne, hand cream and essential oil. The presence of lavender is certainly an essence of L’occitane, since lavender was one of the first flowers that Olivier distilled to be essential oil. Until in 1977, Olivier cultivated the best lavender seeds in Provence. Identity of the forty-decade celebration is also attached to the simple yet distinctive diagonal line design, characterizing Provence’s scenery seen from the top during lavender planting season, where shades of
blue and purple dominating city’s landscape.
Lavender’s presence as one of L’occitane’s characteristics will also be exhibited during the biggest art event in Jakarta, Bazaar Art Jakarta 2016. Artist Theresia Agustina Sitompul (Tere) is commissioned to compose an installation describing the sensation of using L’occitane’s lavender product. Tere has prepared a bath up made of brass with an overlay of lavender floating in the air. A representation of appeasing sensation that makes you feel like lightly flying over in the air.
