Harper's Bazaar Art (Indonesia) - - What’s On Baj -

Puri Art Gallery was the first established gallery in Malang, East Java, Indonesia in 2001, but then moved to Surabaya in 2004. Since then, Puri Art Gallery has been devotedly supporting the art atmosphere in the East Java district and has continued to dedicate itself in establishing the art in the region, nationally and internationally. This time, Joni Ramlan and Yoga Mahendra are named as two artists highlighted by Puri Art Gallery.

If you have ever visited BAJ on its previous years, you would be familiar with Joni Ramlan’s works which put forward bike as his object. Joni who has been admiring Affandi since he was a teenager, becomes a self-taught artist by studying fine art through books of artworks. For him, bike represents something that happen on its surroundings, not only people but scenes or other social matters as well. It is similar to Yoga Mahendra, a Malang-born artist who is also an autodidact in learning art. Yoga has started drawing pictures since he was a little boy. Graduated from Visual Communication Design program, he has been participating in some gallery exhibitions as well as international art fair in

Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
