Joni Ram­lan, was born in 1970 in Si­doarjo, East Java. When he was a teenager, he was mes­mer­ized by Af­fandi and the en­ergy in his paint­ings. How­ever, his first in­ter­est in art was mu­sic, then he re­al­ized that he pre­ferred in­de­pen­dent art. He taught him­self to paint through books. His works have beau­ti­ful theme and color com­po­si­tion, his style has evolved from re­al­ism and im­pres­sion­ism to min­i­mal­ism and more ab­stract with col­ors. He has also trans­formed his works from 2D to in­stal­la­tion. He has been ac­tively in­volved in ex­hi­bi­tions in In­done­sia and art fairs around Asia. Win­ning nu­mer­ous awards in­clud­ing Sen­i­man Ber­prestasi Jawa Timur (2012) and Radar Mo­jok­erto Award (2007), he was a fi­nal­ist at the In­done­sia Art Award 2008 and the Jakarta Art Award 2006.
