High-grown or hard bean refers to coffee beans that are grown at altitudes of 3,000 feet above sea level and higher. When grown at these altitudes, the coffee beans mature more slowly and become denser than those grown lower down. The quality makes highgrown coffee more desirable and usually more expensive.
