“A business that is born out of personal needs,” is how Joko Tanoyo, owner of FIO Home, describes his work to Indonesia Tatler Homes. FIO means “yarn” in Portuguese and it is a premium brand for modern-style carpet collections and wood laminate finishes. The idea started in 2001, when Joko had just returned home after finishing his college education in the US. He was asked by his parents to decorate his own bedroom, all except for the carpet because his parents worked in the carpet industry, although they were rather “old school”. So Joko decided to take matters into his own hands and start his own carpet business with a more modern outlook. And it was all worth it: FIO Home is now one of the strongest players in the market.
