Imagine being able to fly where you like without leaving a carbon footprint? Well, you can—if you can get your hands on the Solar Impulse 2. The amazing craft is the only airplane capable of perpetual endurance, able to fly day and night solely on solar power, without a drop of fuel. The revolutionary carbon-fibre single-seater has a wingspan wider than a jumbo and weighs 2300kg, not much more than the average car. Some of the power from its 17,000 solar cells is stored in batteries to power the craft at night. The Solar Impulse 2 recently made a record-breaking flight from Nagoya to Hawaii, and is scheduled to continue its ambitious inaugural attempt to fly around the world using only the sun as its power source this year.
