Nature & Nurture
From the mountains of Yunnan to the plains of Zimbabwe, these resorts will reawaken the senses
Amanresorts’ latest luxury property, its 28th, opened in February in one of China’s most scenic spots—the centuries-old town of Lijiang in the mountainous southwestern province of Yunnan. Amandayan is enveloped by the Unesco-listed town’s beautiful heritage architecture—think cobblestone streets, pretty arched bridges and plenty of pagodas—and nearby natural landmarks such as Tiger Leaping Gorge and Lashi Lake. The 35-suite property is designed in traditional Sino-tibetan style and features details such as custom elm furnishings and the region’s dongba wood carvings. Facilities include the Tea House, which boasts a beautiful view, the Man Yi Xuan restaurant, which serves both Cantonese and Yunnanese cuisine, and a spa with six treatment rooms that incorporates traditional Chinese medicine in its range of treatments.
