A change of leadership in the Hanura Party—a small but influential party in the House of Representatives—has taken place without much commotion six months after previous party chief Wiranto was appointed as a senior minister in the Cabinet of President Joko Widodo. The new chairman, Oesman Sapta Odang, who serves at the People’s Consultative Council (MPR) as deputy speaker representing the Regional Representatives Council, is expected to bring fresh blood to the party and attract more constituents at the 2017 regional elections. “There are 13 members of the Regional Representatives Council who have shown a commitment to joining Hanura,” said Oesman, the businessman-cum-politician popularly known as OSO.
