An avid heavy metal afi­cionado, Pres­i­dent Joko Wi­dodo dis­cov­ers a new world of mu­sic by Charli XCX and Shura at We the Fest 2017

We the Fest, the an­nual sum­mer fes­ti­val of mu­sic, arts, fash­ion and food, has rocked Jakarta for the last four years and fea­tures a va­ri­ety of mu­si­cal gen­res, in­clud­ing pop, rock, in­die, hip hop and elec­tronic dance mu­sic.

On the Fri­day of the sec­ond week of Au­gust, af­ter at­tend­ing an­other event at the Jakarta In­ter­na­tional Expo com­pound, Pres­i­dent Joko Wi­dodo paid an im­promptu visit to the fes­ti­val. “I just want to see the new trends in mu­sic,” said the pres­i­dent. “I am for heavy metal, but what I saw in Shura’s con­cert is okay with me.” Dur­ing this spe­cial night out, Pres­i­dent Jokowi also en­joyed an ex­cep­tional piece pre­sented by Charli XCX, a Bri­tish singer and song­writer known for her 2014 hit sin­gle “Boom Clap” from the sound­track al­bum The Fault in Our Stars.
