Barong Bar

JJK e-magazine - - RESTAURANT REVIEW -

First and foremost, barong Bar is a cocktail bar. You don’t get many of those in Jakarta that offers both quality drinks and food. The atmosphere leans towards the masculine side, with dimly lit lighting accentuated by dark wood colours. You’ll feel as if you’re in an upscale business club in London rather than Jakarta. That said, Barong Bar does offer a number of food items within a single-page menu, and an even more extensive drinks list complete with signature cocktails and all-time favourites. If you’re looking for gut-busting meals that will fill you to the brim, Barong Bar may not be the place for you. However, if you want a variety of small plates while enjoying some of the most delicious cocktails in Jakarta, then you’re in the right place. Getting down to business, we first ordered cocktails in the form of the Clover Club and a version of whiskey sour. The bartenders could be seen in action behind the counter, and it was apparent that these guys knew how to make a good drink – they even create their own bitters. This impression was confirmed upon the first sip of the whiskey sour. It was chilled to perfection with the right amount of sourness and sweetness. More importantly, it didn’t taste bland like so many whiskey sours elsewhere. Every gulp was as exciting as the first, and that’s not easily achieved. Our second drink – the Clover Club – was a mix of gin, raspberry, lemon, and egg whites.
