INDONESIA IS NOW HOME TO NUMEROUS MUSIC STREAMING SERVICES
Not even a year ago, most people across Indonesia had to rely on using proxy servers or VPNs in order to enjoy quality music over the internet. Fast forward to the present day, we are now blessed with a handful of music streaming services. Even though the nation was late to the party compared to some countries around the world, it’s always a treat whenever an internationally-renowned company makes the effort to expand and implant a localised product in Indonesia. Just over a month ago, music streaming giant Spotify excited music lovers in the archipelago by announcing that they would grant access to Indonesian internet users. Prior to that, Apple introduced their music streaming service, Apple Music through a new update of their iOS operating system. When you also combine other services such as JOOX from China, Yonder Music from the US, and Guvera from Australia, we are now spoilt for choices. Of course the obvious benefit of such a condition is we now don’t have to manually download songs onto our phones or music players that would take precious memory space. In addition, more and more people can now explore the vast world of music more easily and perhaps find a new favourite artist or two. Because that’s arguably one of the best utilisations of a music streaming app or website: expanding your borders by discovering new artists. Indirectly, the increased access to a wider range of musical talent will hopefully inspire budding national musicians that will keep their works fresh and up to date. It may have taken us a while, but with the constant improvement of our internet providers and the allure of the gigantic Indonesian market, we can truly expect more internet-based streaming companies expanding to Indonesia. We won’t ever have to be bored again while stuck in traffic!
