West Bali has long been Bali’s best-kept secret. Off the tourist trail, visitors to this part of Bali feel like they are on a different island altogether. West Bali is a region of dramatic beauty, with towering volcanic mountains, verdant rice terraces, beautiful black-sand beaches fringed by palm trees and never-ending vistas of the blue waters of the Indian Ocean. In the middle of this tropical paradise is Alila Villas Soori.

The villas were designed to connect the living spaces with the inspiring sights and soothing sounds of the natural surroundings. Each villa features a private pool, an outdoor dining area, private pavilion, indoor and outdoor rain shower, luxurious linens and butler service. Inner courtyards open to the sky, letting in natural light and ocean breezes. Living spaces open onto an outdoor pavilion with landscaped gardens and architectural ponds. Each villa was configured to maximize views of the Indian Ocean without compromising individual privacy. Natural materials such as wood and stone come from nearby villages that are famous for their artisans and quality workmanship. Terracotta tiles featuring abstract Balinese motifs blend traditional Balinese culture with the resort’s contemporary edge. Refined, minimalist and restrained, custom-designed interiors in dark browns, soft beiges, different shades of grey and white evoke a tranquil, intimate atmosphere.

You can relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery from the 50-metre-long infinity pool with views over the Indian Ocean, or retreat to one of the beach cabanas with a good book. There are also tailor-made, one-of-a-kind excursions and activities known as “journeys by Alila,” where you can gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the history and culture of West Bali destination, while pursuing their personal passions.

Alila Villas Soori offers beachfront living at its most stylish and luxurious. Its contemporary Asian design is seamlessly crafted into the landscape, gently flowing from verdant rice terraces down to the beautiful blacksand beach, with panoramic views across the azure Indian Ocean. Embracing Bali’s unique balance of tranquillity and vitality, the stunning Alila Villas Soori combines exclusive living and relaxation with spa wellness, fully integrating the beach experience to create a vibrant mix of spaces and experiences. A paradise setting designed for rejuvenation and stimulation of all the senses.

My Honeymoon

We were welcomed by the smiling Alila Soori team, which immediately put as at ease, despite the unfamiliar surroundings. Alila Soori is not located in a typical Bali neighbourhood; the environment had a pure, untouched feel that provided a uniquely peaceful ambience. Our private suite was dominated by the colour white, which somehow emphasised the purity of the location.

We enjoyed a romantic afternoon swim, watching the sea and the sunset from our own private pool which was directly accessible from the patio doors in our bedroom. What else to feel but happy and romantic?

We ventured out to dine at one of the restaurants surrounded by the beautiful, well-kept gardens and the best sea view in the premises. The food was a real gem as it featured traditional Balinese spices in cuisine that had a distinctly contemporary flavour.

The following morning, we took a stroll along the shore to enjoy the fresh air and morning light; it felt as though we had our own private beach as we headed to the restaurant for breakfast. The meal was served a la carte in miniportions to ensure it was both hot and fresh, and allowed diners to sample a good variety of dishes: a great way to start the day!

We then spent the rest of our morning in the library, which has a good range of material on offer and a beautiful lawn adjacent for al fresco reading.

Another excellent guest facility is the cycling equipment and a track, providing an opportunity to explore the neighbouring village and experience local traditions as cool air rushes past.

Horse-riding on the beach is another option on offer, while a spell at the spa allows you to pamper yourself with a relaxing massage. Register for a yoga class, which can be taken either indoors or outside in a bale (gazebo) overlooking the blue sea and clear sky.

As the car whisked us away at the end of our stay, we could not help but feel we would miss the place enormously. Mind, body and soul all felt the benefit: We silently agreed it was a great way to end our honeymoon and prepare ourselves for our daily routines in the big city.
