Top Five Most Lightweight Laptops

Maxx-M - - EDITOR’S PICK -

When looking for a new laptop, there are several things to consider. You might have different preferences according to specification, size, colour or brand. But as a travel writer, the first criterion I consider when I choose a laptop is its weight. As my work depends on it, I have to carry the laptop with me all the time, so less weight is a big plus for me. Here are some light laptops that made it onto my list:

Samsung ATIV Book 9 with Full HD

First thing that caught my eye when I saw the ATIV Book 9 is the silver line on each side of the laptop. These give it a strong ‘iron’ look, even though it looks really thin. ATIV Book 9 is the new alias for the notebook, formerly known as the Series 9. In terms of laptop construction, the seamless customized frame manages to condense key hardware components without compromising performance. Aesthetically pleasing, the notebook’s all-new 13.3-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) display with 170-degree viewing angle and SuperBright Plus technology successfully wins its customer’s heart. Samsung’s Fast Solutions technology, which instantly wakes the machine from sleep mode and provides a boot-up time of less than 10 seconds, is a nice touch. Weight: 1.16 kg

Toshiba Kirabook (Touch Version)

Enclosed in AZ91 pressed magnesium alloy, the Kirabook stands as the lightest and thinnest high-res laptop in the premium-class mar media experience by pumping out clear, loud audio. In terms of specifications, this laptop also has some serious heat: an Intel Core i7 CPU, HD Graphic 4000 chip, Windows 8 Pro, 256GB SSD, and 8GB of RAM. To top it off, the company has a dedicated 24-hour call center that handles all inquiries, from software troubleshooting to broken hardware. These make Kirabook the best high-end PC laptop in my opinion. Weight: 1.18 kg

Acer Aspire S7

The laptop has characteristics that make it stand out compared with its competitors in the industry, Acer Aspire S7 is known not only as a ‘featherweight’ but is also sliver thin, sturdy and has excellent dynamic performance, thanks to the S7’s effective processing power and speedy solid-state drive. Another impressive feature is the multitouch technology on the 11.6-inch IPS panel (1920 x 1080), paired nicely with its superb HD video and image quality. A firm palm rest adds comfort and durability to the typing experience, there are also a svelte leather slipcase, wireless mouse with optical sensor, mini HDMI to 15pin VGA adapter and an external battery for extra power in the bundled package. Weight: 1.26 kg

MacBook Air (13-inch)

Widely known as the trendsetter of the movement, MacBook Air has thousands of fans loyal to the brand. It is no surprise since this Apple lightweight champion resembles the beautiful styling of the MacBook Pro and matches its horsepower at the same time. New Intel processors bring strong benchmarks to the forefront, and the inclusion of new 3.0 USB ports and the ridiculously fast Thunderbolt port bring highspeed data transfer to the fold. The best part for all travel lovers is the improved battery life (more than seven hours), which means you are freed of the need to charge it up for most of the day. Best overall laptop in my opinion. Weight: 1.34 kg

5 HP Envy x2

If you seek the best battery life, this laptop might just be the one for you. The dockable keyboard which has various features such as SD Card slot, audio jack, USB ports, HDMI slots, also has an attached battery pack that boosts overall vitality to a solid 12 hours. You might expect excessive overheating to occur with so much juice being pumped out of the dock and tablet, but surprisingly the x2 manages to stay cool throughout the day. Envy x2 has emerged as one of the top multifaceted convertibles by catering to both computing platforms and sporting the styling of a premium netbook. Weight: 1.41 kg
