he Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta is one of Yogyakarta’s truly historic landmarks and a visit here promises to be a unique experience. When you enter the lobby, you will see a beautiful relief of a slope of Mount Merapi on one side of the lobby wall. The Merapi Slope was made in 1964-1965 of cast stone and cement. It depicts the dynamism of life that exists on the slopes of Mount Merapi in Yogyakarta, with all its advantages and disadvantages. At the bottom it shows people’s activities in the fields and at home. Some artists display their talents at work: blacksmiths, sculpture and batik. A number of women and children bathe and play in the river. Another corner illustrates some revolutionary army guards at their posts. You can also see a lovely mosaic (near the Royal Restaurant) which depict the peaceful life of Yogyakarta people in the middle of the last century.

Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta creates a range of activities that represent Javanese culture, such as a Royal tea ceremony, Royal Dinner, Royal In-house Tour and others related to the art and cultural community, at Pendopo Agung. Hotel guests may visit the heritage museum, located between the adjacent shopping mall and the hotel. Museum Ambarrukmo occupies the main building of the Royal Residence, right behind the majestic Pendopo. In the early 19th century, it was the official residence of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono VII, soon after he abdicated. As a Royal Residence, it has several large rooms that are utilised as exhibition galleries to showcase Indonesian cultural legacy. It has been proclaimed and inscribed as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage.

Each hotel room and suite at Hotel Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta has a spacious balcony. If you stay here you can choose your view, from majestic Mount Merapi to the beautifully redesigned pool garden. All rooms have been remodelled and are furnished in modern-elegant style.
