ocated at a higher elevation than much of Java, the city of Bandung, famously known for its cool breezes, is a perfect spot to enjoy a laid-back holiday or just for a day-trip from Jakarta. I was fortunate enough to experience the newly renovated Sheraton Bandung Hotel & Towers. It was a clear sunny day in Jakarta when I embarked on my trip to Bandung. It took only three hours by car to reach Dago Valley in Bandung where Sheraton Bandung Hotel & Towers is located. The moment I arrived at the property, I was immediately impressed by the look of the beautiful lobby; it was totally different to the last time I came here. The arrangement of a series of crystal-clear glass chandeliers decorating the highceilinged lobby symbolises Bandung’s blue skies and clouds, while separate dining tables and chairs with art deco styling give a fresh feeling to the entire room. A friendly desk clerk greeted me with a smile as I checked in for one night at this beautiful hotel. As I was escorted to my room, I came across the lagoon-style pool surrounded by palm trees while a tall frangipani tree in the centre gave a resort-like atmosphere to the area. The fresh, crystal-clear water invited me to jump in straight away. But then I remembered that I had to go to my room first. My room was on the third floor, and gave me an interesting view of the lively swimming pool from the front door, and a view of the lush green garden from the balco- ny. The room looked completely different to what it was like previously. A fresh, chic ambience and relaxing earth colours are the main features of the room’s decor. The bed felt soft and comfortable, with a beautiful flower painting above it. A range of amenities is standard in this room, such as LCD TV, laptop-sized safe deposit box, refreshment centre, smart desk, comfortable sofa and walk-in rain shower. I had a wonderful dinner at the Feast Restaurant. There are many food options here, from international to authentic local dishes served buffet-style. I love the seared sea bass and the traditional Sundanese favourite nasi tutug oncom, which features grilled fermented soybean wrapped in banana leaf. I enjoyed the warm, casual ambience that exists throughout the restaurant, especially in the open area overlooking the pool, which made me feel relaxed while I enjoyed dinner. Another dining option for a light bite is at the newly opened Toastina. A bright and cheery atmosphere with contemporary design, coffee tables and oversized sofas offer a warm and cozy ambience perfect for hanging out with friends while enjoying a cup of coffee or tea, accompanied by cakes and sweets, or even gourmet pizza.
