When Work Feels Like Home

“The familiar surroundings of warm, friendly faces, comfortable beds and linens in the guestrooms, ensuring that all the facilities are running well and genuine service is provided, those are the ways to make a hotel a homey place for guests,” Pria Kunta

Pria, the General Manager of Allium Tangerang Hotel, said one of the keys to his career has been to make his company his family. He was the first member recruited when Samali Hotels & Resorts was established in August 2011. “I know most of my colleagues; it connects me to the hotel,” said the music lover.

What should people know about the hotel industry?

What guests should know is that hoteliers are not just doing their job because it is their duty. In the hospitality world, service should come from the heart. That is the secret for hoteliers who wish to keep their guests happy.

Do you have a unique experience you can share with our readers?

We had a group of guests from Canada who were staying at Allium Tangerang and they requested a city tour. They had visited most of the countries in Southeast Asia. One of the places we visited was Taman Mini and it surprised me to see how excited they were to see a miniature version of Indonesia. It was a small thing but it makes you appreciate the wonders of your own nation.

How can teamwork affect the success of a company?

Let’s take a vehicle as an example. Every staff member in each department is part of the car’s engine and they need to move simultaneously and dynamically for the car to run well. When it needs to go fast, everyone must move fast together and be in sync.

I heard that you love music. What kind of music do you like?

I like all kinds of music because I enjoy music not through the lyrics, but through the instruments used in the songs. It’s because I love to play the guitar and keyboards. My everlasting favourite song is "One Day In Your Life" by my favourite singer, Michael Jackson.

How do you keep focused and deal with stress at work?

I keep focused by instilling in myself the essentiality of providing excellent service to every guest who comes to the hotel and to always think positively in the face of any challenge.

Is there some place you dream of visiting?

Dubai and staying at the Burj Al Arab Hotel, which architecturally looks very modern.
