It was an Easter weekend in Jakarta and many people took the chance to leave the bustling and buzzing of this mega city. I was uncertain whether I should take a vacation or a staycation? My daughter and I decided for a staycation. We planned to stay somewhere within the city, a place which offers something for me as well as for her, something mature and something youthful. A place that will take us away from our routines, and yet not too far away. And the lot fell to the Gran Melia Jakarta. Gran Melia is located on one of the major access roads in Jakarta, Jl. Rasuna Said, Kuningan and remains one of the most prestigious hotels in Jakarta for the past 20 years. I was very interested in its Red Level, the exclusive and contemporary hotel lounge after reading what they had on offer. The Red Level rooms are located on the 14th to the 16th floors of the hotel. The rooms are spaciously 44m2 with a beautiful view of the Jakarta skyline. Guests also enjoy the private social lounge located on 14th floor and are treated to personalized check-ins and outs available only to the Red Level guests. Enchanting scents greeted us as we entered the lobby layered with prettifying flowers. We later found out that this scent is the trademark of Gran Melia. We were very much impressed with the way the hotel welcomed us through appealing to oursenses.Wesmelledthefragranceandenjoyed the sights of both the flowers and the smiles of the Gran Melia Jakarta’s staffs. The check-in was smooth and impeccably timely. People who plan to stay for business, in and around Jakarta, would find this efficiency beneficial as time is saved to do other things or relax at the 24-hour lounge, to enjoy the view and maybe a bit of networking before heading out to meetings. Once we reached our room, our relaxation time started with the Mother-Daughter Yhi Spa. The Spa begins with some ginger tea and surprisingly thorough conversation about our health history. Y hi Spa staffs were very courteous to my daughter as this was her very first time getting a spa treatment. They guided her to choose the oil she prefers and taught her a thing or two from there. We took a 60 minutes body massage for 2, a good treatment for a young first timer. The result was as expected, we both felt rejuvenated. My daughter giggled a couple of times as she found the massage ticklish. I liked the oil that Yhi Spa uses. My skin felt hydrated and smoothened. The masseurs were exceptionally skillful and friendly.

Soon enough, I craved for tea and glided myself to the Red Level high tea. It was worth the efforts. I went to enjoy my “me” time at Red Level. I thought I would just enjoy the ‘alone in the crowd’ type of moment. I should’ve known better! I was overwhelmed with Red Level’s class and sincerity, to begin with. I ended up chatting with the staff about a wide range of topics from politics, everyday life, and family. It was as if I had just bumped into an old friend. We exchanged views about a lot of topics, but one thing I learned from the conversations was that the staffs were all proud of their Red Level and being a part of Gran Melia Jakarta. I indeed enjoyed my high tea and the company. It was dinner time, we chose to have dinner at “Yoshi Izakaya” as we both love Japanese barbecues. Yoshi Izakaya served what I believe is one of the best beef teriyaki in town. It was so tender and juicy topped with perfect teriyaki sauce. The chicken teppanyaki was a mixture of the tenderness of the meat and crispiness of the skin. Seafood was grilled to perfection, not overcooked at all. The salad bar could use an upgrade to start up our appetite though. The ambiance was overly romantic for a motherdaughter time, but I think it is very soothing for those looking to have a quiet dinner after a tiring day. I decided to go to Red Level Lounge before I went to bed. The staffs knew me by name this time and asked about my daughter. They politely suggested bringing her so she could enjoy some desserts for a short while. They fairly and politely informed me the expected behavior for her to be able to enter Red Level lounge. I complied with the conditions. My daughter joined and enjoyed the desserts. We did not stay for long as it was a bit late.

As we made our way back to our room, the staffs made sure we were ready for the night and offered to deliver to our room soft drinks, cookies or any pastry of our choice. They made us feel like we have a royal pantry just a floor below us. They told us to come anytime just in case we need anything and grab from the shelves. It was like a deluge of happiness. The next day, we started our day with scrumptious breakfast at Cafe Gran Via. We tried not to be over consumptive as we so look forward to having Easter Brunch later on during the day. Gran Melia held Easter Brunch along with a baking class for children. We dipped ourselves in the pool, and soon after, my daughter was ready for her interactive baking class. There were plenty of children, both boys and girls joining the class. They played games while waiting for their cupcakes to bake in the oven. My daughter decided not to join the games and sat with me for brunch. We treated ourselves to delicious Indian delicacies at the Café Gran Via brunch. My daughter and I are Indian food lovers. Our taste buds were spiced up with the Biryani and Green Masala Mutton. Creme Brulee was our next favorite desserts. They were just perfect! As I was seated and savoring the delicacies in front of me, taking the pleasure of having quality time with my daughter and relaxing, all at the same time, I realized that I was having a perfect holiday. I was surrounded by the scent of nature, wonderful sights of green and colorful flowers and the euphonious children’s laughter. One of my finest vacations indeed! A staycation!
