If I had to choose just one city in Indonesia where I would love to spend my holidays, it would definitely be Yogyakarta. Yogyakarta is home to a stunning wealth of cultural and artistic treasures. There are magnificent temples, palaces and monasteries ruins, cultural events, art galleries, traditional performing arts, and so muchmore.Theseareallpartsofthelivingculture of Yogyakarta and it colours the daily activities of its residents. Because of its cultural richness and rich heritage, Yogyakarta has long been known as the cradle of Javanese culture. And I fell in love with the city the first time I set foot in it and just can’t get enough of the city. My hectic schedules had drained me, so I decided to look for a place where I could unwind, chill out and lavish some well-deserved pampering on myself. I decided to have a little escape, so we packed our bags and flew to my favourite city, Yogyakarta, where I booked a stay at Plataran Heritage Borobudur. Just as the car that took us from the airport drove through a village, with rice fields all around, this beautiful colonial building suddenly emerged. Set amid the rice terraces of Kretek village in Magelang,CentralJava, overlookingthelushgreen Menoreh Hills, Plataran Heritage Borobudur is an exquisite retreat that pairs elegance with colonial charm. Complementing the Plataran Borobudur Resort & Spa complex is the renowned Stupa Restaurant and The Heritage Convention Centre. The resort offers an unparalleled stay for leisure

and business travellers, infused with the serenity of a tropical garden and the mystical Borobudur ambience. As I stepped out of the car, I immediately sensed the tranquil village atmosphere surrounded by the most picturesque vistas of paddy fields, tropical gardens and the lush Menoreh Hills. The hotel its self is simply elegant and modern, my room boasts an enchanting view of the Menoreh Hills. The room was an elegant retreat, furnished with a king-size bed, bathroom with bathtub and shower, sofa and work table, and a private outdoor terrace or balcony. When it comes to food, Plataran never fails me. I love how they always let the tastes do the talking in all the resorts and restaurants, and have done the same at Plataran Heritage Borobudur. Indulge in an authentic taste of Indonesia at Stupa, whose menu of Indonesian specialties takes you on a mouthwatering culinary journey across the archipelago. Enjoy the relaxed ambience of Stupa’s open-air setting where the food is accompanied by divine views. Plataran Heritage Borobudur lies just steps from The Heritage Convention Center, an unrivalled event venue in the Borobudur area. Designed in the Dutch colonial style, it features a grand ballroom that can accommodate 500 guests standing and 300 seated, and three meeting rooms with a capacity of up to 30 persons in each room. A versatile venue for well-executed board meetings, corporate gatherings, seminars and conferences. Staying at Plataran Heritage Borobudur means that I am only minutes away from Pu thu kS et um bu (Bukit Manoreh) – the best place to watch the famed Borobudur sunrise. I woke up early and climbed the hills, there were a lot of people trying to find the best spots to watch the sunrise. On a very bright day, we can see the sun rising behind Borobudur temple, it was a very cloudy and foggy morning, so I couldn’t see the temple however it still was one of the best sunrises I ever saw. I think the cloud actually made the atmosphere more magical. Although I only spent a couple of nights as Plataran Heritage Borobudur, it was exactly the short break that I needed. As I prepared to say goodbye to Plataran Heritage Borobudur, I realised that it is only when you take a break and step back from the daily routine that can you start to understand what Italians mean by “la

vita e bella, or ‘ life is beautiful’.” My time at the resort gave me the chance to do nothing, I spent peaceful hours just soaking it all in, and in those times, I was able to realise how beautiful and precious life is. I often take many things in this life for granted, and I spend too much time working and forget to stop and smell the roses. Thankfully, I found a little slice of heaven at Plataran Heritage Borobudur.
