‘LAST SUPPER’ AT THE SHANG PALACE
Shangri-La Jakarta hotel, South Jakarta
The Shang Palace at the Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta, held a ceremonial dinner on July 18 to mark the closure of one of the city’s most renowned Chinese dining establishments after 22 years.
Slated for a update to its “Classic Oriental” decor, The Shang is expected to reopen by the year’s end with a look that is more contemporarily Chinese, along with touches of Indonesia.
The new Shang is also expected to offer after its reopening a new signature dish: Beijing Duck, a slow-roasted and succulent whole Peking Duck served with thin crepe-like Lotus Leaf Pancakes, hoisin sauce and finely sliced green onions.
Guests for the Shang’s “Last Supper” received a collection of vintage-style postcards depicting the restaurant over the years.
